Nature Immersions: Lessons from the Hawk

by | Nov 5, 2025

As the leaves turn and the crisp air settles over Maryville Retreat Center, the woods come alive with subtle signs of the season. One visitor you may notice on a quiet walk is the red-tailed hawk, perched high in the trees or circling gracefully above the trails. With keen eyesight and silent, purposeful flight, these magnificent birds are symbols of vision, awareness and focus.

Red-tailed hawks are skilled hunters and careful observers, moving with precision and balance in their woodland home. In many cultures, they are regarded as messengers, guides, and reminders to stay mindful of the world around us. Observing a hawk in its natural habitat can inspire us to notice the beauty in small details, maintain perspective, and embrace clarity in our own lives.

So next time you wander Maryville’s trails, look to the sky. Notice the hawk’s effortless glide, its watchful presence and the way it harmonizes with the rhythm of the forest. Like the hawk, we too are called to rise above distractions, stay aware and honor the gifts of the world around us.
