A Contemplative Beginning to Lent

Lent calls us to quiet our lives, create space for prayer, and listen more attentively for God’s presence. The Lenten Taizé Prayer Service, led by Sister Judith Marie Blizzard, CSSF at Maryville Retreat Center offers a gentle and contemplative way to begin this sacred season.

The Taizé Prayer Experience

Rooted in the Taizé tradition, this prayer service weaves together simple, repetitive chants, short Scripture readings and extended periods of silence. The rhythm of the music and stillness allows the mind to rest and the heart to open, creating space for reflection, surrender, and encounter with God.

A Sacred Setting

Held in the softly lit Maryville Chapel, the evening invites participants into a peaceful, candlelit atmosphere where distractions fall away and prayer becomes unhurried. Centered in the presence of the Eucharistic Christ, this experience is especially meaningful for those seeking calm, renewal or a deeper sense of connection during Lent.

All Are Welcome

No prior experience with Taizé prayer is needed. Whether you come feeling centered or weary, hopeful or searching, you are invited simply to come as you are and rest in God’s presence.
