Encountering God Through Art: A Creative Retreat Experience

by | May 12, 2026

There is something deeply sacred about creating—about allowing our hands, hearts and imagination to become instruments of prayer. At Maryville Retreat Center, this summer offers a unique opportunity to encounter God through the beauty of artistic expression.

A Creative Spiritual Retreat Rooted in Prayer and Reflection

From June 19–21, 2026, join Sister Jane Mary Gawlik and Sister Judith Marie Blizzard for Encountering God Through Art, a weekend retreat designed to help you discover prayer in a new and meaningful way.

Grounded in the belief that God can be found in all things, this retreat invites participants to explore Scripture through creative reflection. Whether working with clay, ink or watercolor, you’ll be guided gently into a deeper awareness of God’s presence in your life. No prior artistic experience is needed—only a willingness to be open.

Explore Scripture Through Art, Creativity and Community

Set against Maryville’s peaceful, natural surroundings, this retreat offers space to slow down, listen and create. Through guided sessions, quiet reflection and shared community, you may find that art becomes not just an activity, but a pathway to encounter God more personally.
