Nature Immersions: Turkey Tales

by | Sep 22, 2025

If you’ve ever wandered the grounds of Maryville Retreat Center in the early morning or late afternoon, you may have spotted one of our most fascinating visitors—the wild turkey. Often traveling in flocks, these curious birds move quietly through the woods, their feathers shimmering in the sunlight with hues of bronze, copper, and green.

Turkeys are creatures of both resilience and awareness. They forage together, communicate with a wide range of calls, and are keenly alert to their surroundings. In many cultures, the turkey symbolizes abundance, gratitude, and community—fitting reminders as we enter the season of harvest and thanksgiving.

So the next time you see a turkey strutting along Maryville’s trails, take a moment to pause. Notice its quiet strength, its connection to the flock, and the way it thrives in harmony with the land. Like the turkey, we too are invited to walk with awareness, gratitude, and a deep appreciation for the gifts around us.
