Renewed by Stillness: A Reflection on the Power of Retreats

by | May 20, 2025

Why Retreats—and Time for Yourself—Matter More Than Ever

With the rise of AI and the fast-paced world around us, it’s easy to put our faith and self-care on hold. Whether it’s managing kids’ activities, caring for elderly parents or working two jobs just to pay the bills in the face of rising costs—our day-to-day lives often leave little room for reflection.

When you visit Maryville Retreat Center, you’re able to pause, reflect and consider how you might plan differently. It’s a chance to recharge your mental and spiritual well-being and rediscover the joy of God in everyday life—even amid hectic schedules. Maybe that renewal comes from reading the book you’ve been meaning to start, or from a peaceful walk in nature—listening to birds chirping, waves gently hitting the shore, and the wind rustling the leaves in the trees.

When you make time to reflect, God speaks in ways you might not notice in the busyness of daily life. In my own life, spending time every day on Maryville’s beautiful grounds has shown me just how clearly He speaks when we make space to listen.

Whether you’ve never experienced a day of reflection or have done many, a seasonal retreat gives you the opportunity to slow down and hear what God may be calling you to do—or to find answers to the questions you’ve been struggling with in everyday life.

As I sit here on the dock by the water on this warm May afternoon, I reflect and pray that many others will experience the same joy I’m feeling—thanks to the love and dedication of the Felician Sisters, who continue to offer this wonderful ministry for people of all faiths and backgrounds to enjoy.
